about

Onism

"With Binary Sunset I was trying to mix a spacious dub techno sound with some funky, dancefloor-oriented Chicago house.

The main trance-synth line was made using a Korg Monolouge, with all the acid lines coming from the TB-03. Some stock Logic plugins and Serum was used for the funky bass and the various ambient melody lines.

I wanted to have the various layered lead lines constantly interweaving in and out of one another, complimenting the stripped back grooving low end. Ensuring the different lead synths stayed identifiable, giving other space in the mix while still blending together to make an immersive wall of sound was the main factor to deal with during the compositional/mixing sections. The mastering from Gary of Squarms helped a lot with this, really giving the mix space to breathe.

Track listened to around time of writing Binary Sunset:
Marcus Mcgowan – The Arrival (Original Mix)
Frankie Knuckles – Your Love
Yves Deruyter – Back To Earth
Madcat – Heard It"

Cass Lamb

"My track features a chuggy discotheque backbeat, gargling acid line, crushed hi hats, wonky sci-fi fx, and all of that! This a bit of a love note to the late 80’s acid trax with an ‘anything goes’ sample policy. Really I’m just trying to conjure in a 3rd summer of love, which we’re all long overdue."
