“Democracy Manifest is our fourth EP and whilst it leans on musical expressions we’ve used in the past, there’s been a shift towards a more aggressive sound. Thematically the lyrics explore the absurdism of modern society in a world ruled by soundbites and headlines. The opening and closing tracks (Executive Outcome and Savage Discourse respectively) are a bread of abstracted frustrations towards the ever changing world around us sandwiching in the more situational Goats & Bows and One With the Crab People (The latter being a direct assault on those who confuse yellow press for food).” - Chris
“The opening track, Executive Outcome, was the first track that was finished and set the tone for the rest of the EP. This track uses a manipulated sample from a 70s IBM corporate training video soundtrack as part of the chord / harmony layer and while I was jamming the track out I was reading about a South African private military company 'Executive Outcomes' (as a result of the same YouTube rabbit hole that lead me to the IBM video). I was compelled by the dichotomy between the glossy optimism of the IBM corporate soundtrack and the pernicious realities of mercenaries legitimising themselves (and their various war crimes) by adopting the language and sheen of big business. Big business has enough of its own crimes to answer for as it is, and perhaps an argument could be made that at least mercenaries are a little more open about the destruction they cause.” – Sim
