Shamu are a three-piece alt-pop band based in Newcastle. They combine electronic and acoustic drums and synth bass with sampled guitars and emotive vocals so create a sound that has been compared to the likes of Wild Beasts, Glass Animals and Public Service Broadcasting.
Their debut singe ‘Dive’ was released in early 2016 to much acclaim. The track received numerous plays on BBC Tees and Newcastle Introducing shows as well as being featured in an array of north-east publications such as The Crack and NE Volume. The follow up single ‘Jump Ship’ was released in summer 2016 and saw them invited to play BBC Introducing sessions by Nick Roberts of BBC Newcastle and Bob Fischer of BBC Tees.
May 2017 saw the release of their eagerly awaited third single which was received extremely well. The track was featured on Spotify’s “Hot New Bands” playlist and received numerous plays on regional radio shows, and also helped Shamu get chosen to perform at Evolution Emerging festival.
The band have been spending a lot of time recording over the last few months and are planning on releasing another two singles this year, as well as embarking on their first national tour.
